Google Wave.

I was not very much enthusiastic about Google’s new product Wave after seeing the newer version of orkut! I thought that Google should have copied from something from someone again!! But after seeing Wave, my opinion has completely changed!!! But I still wonder, “Why did Google copy Facebook to Orkut!!”!! I’ll forget this for time being and talk about WAVE. I have not used wave much. This blog is the product of series of video clips about Google wave in the youtube!

Google wave is a new tool for the real time communication. Wave is a shared space where you can discuss, work and communicate with friends (who have the wave account!) using text, videos and photos.

Wave; In Google’s words:

Email was invented fourty years ago. Nothing has changed since then except how it is displayed to the user! So we thought about it! We thought how would email look like, if it were made today? So we took all the best features of some of the most popular web sites and started our journey to create Wave!! Google wave is a host of conversation with only one copy that anyone can contribute! Unlike email, where a new copy is created whenever you send a mail!!

Lets take an arbitrary scenario:

You want to ask about xyz from a guy abc. You also cc this to your friend. Then the guy abc replies to you! You are not satisfied with that answer so reply him again. At the same time your friend also has some other query so he replies again! So now you got 2 threads of mail conversation for the same topic. If this conversation grows for, assume 8 replies! And then, you decide that your another friend pqr should also know what you three have discussed! So what will you do? If you forward him the mail conversation, then it’s sure the guy pqr will go mad!! So you need to highlight the important stuffs before forwarding the mail conversation or you should separately write a summary of your conversation.

Now let us see the same scenario with new Google Wave:

You start a wave, and invite guy abc and your friend. The guy abc, replies to your query on the same wave. You and your friend can see his reply. If all of you are online, then you can see what other person is typing!! After you and your friend have queried and both are satisfied, you want your friend pqr to know bout this conversation. You just invite him to the Wave! Your friend pqr presses the replay button then he can see the conversation one after the other just like a video!! No confusion for him!! If he wants he can reply to a specific message in the conversation!!!

Now you see what Google Wave is!!

Let me introduce you to some of the features of the Google Wave:

• You can reply to a particular message in the Wave! Unlike other chats, where your reply will be always at the end!!
• You can see what other person is typing! Unlike other chats, where they just display a message that other person is typing!!
• Any person who is the member of the wave can edit and add new message (Wave calls each message in it as blips) to the wave!!! You can have chat as well as email type conversation in one Wave!!
• You can playback the whole conversation (or Wave) anytime!!! Just like you have video recorded your conversation!!
• You can customize your wave panels on the screen! You can minimize them or drag them on one side to make that panel larger or smaller in size!!
• Any participant of the Wave can add a tag to that Wave!! This helps in searching the Wave in future!!
• You can save your search query and its result!!! You can even select a color for these saved searches!! It’ll be showed in the inbox!!!
• You can translate to different languages in real time!! It means, you can talk with a French or German fellow in English!! Wave will translate your English sentences to French or German and then their replies back to English for you!!!

Now did you like Wave? Do you want to start Waving?? I have got 8 invites. I’ll keep 3 for myself. If you want leave a comment saying that you need an invite. I’ll send you. Happy waving… :)

People want a Bhagat Singh, but in a neighbour’s house!

“Everyone wants children like Bhagat Singh or a Bose but in neighbour’s house. I too feel so now”. This statement was by the father of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan to Sunday Times.

I thought about it and felt it was so true. Everyone in our country is wishing for Bhagat Singh or Subash Chandra Bose, but who is ready to become their parents! It is just like everyone wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die! How many parents can you find who inspires their child to join army!! How many parents can you find who motivates their child to follow the foot steps of Field Marshal Kaaryappa!!

Many parents today want their child to become Sachin Tendulkar or Sania Mirza but only a few wants their child to join Army. Even if some child says that he/she wants to join army, then they’ll ask for the reason. The child will obviously say that he/she wants to server the nation. Then their parents suggest that there is lot other way to serve a nation, thereby debilitating the child’s ambition of joining the army.

Recently in the news paper I read that Major Deepak Kapoor, Chief of Army Staff had made a statement that the number of youths who are enthusiastic to join army has reduced. There are many who make youth the scapegoat, but the core of this problem lies in the parents! Only a few parents let their children choose defense as their career. If the child is studying well, no parent dreams of seeing him as a major in army, but instead envisages him as a CEO of a multinational company!

I don’t mean that the above attitude of the parent is wrong! I am not concluding anything here. I am just summarizing the dispositions of today’s parents! If anybody wish to see Bhagat Singh then you need to find a parent who is ready to lose his child at the age of 23!!!
